Miami-Dade Democratic Party to host Blue Forum & Fair in Doral Two Days Before Florida Presidential Primary
Daniella Levine Cava, Jean Monestime, and Alex Penelas to Participate in Mayoral Forum
Miami, FL: On Sunday, March 15th, hours prior to the final presidential debate leading up to the Florida presidential primaries, hundreds of local Democrats will gather in Doral to prepare for flipping Florida blue in 2020. The Miami-Dade Democratic Party will host a Forum and Fair in Doral, ending with a two hour event featuring three leading Democratic candidates for Miami-Dade County Mayor.
With only 2 presidential candidates with a fighting chance to win the nomination, and still close to 1500 delegates needed to win the nomination, Florida’s 219 pledged delegates will play a significant role. Miami-Dade County has over 600,000 Democrats. Their turnout will play a critical role in deciding both the Democratic nominee, and the eventual winner of Florida’s 29 Electoral College votes in November. Fair attendees will have opportunities to learn how they can support their candidate in the final days, and participate in a preference poll that will be published at the end of the day.
The Miami-Dade Democratic Party announced the participation of three candidates in the Mayoral forum. Commissioner Daniella Levine Cava, Commissioner Jean Monestime and former Mayor Alex Penelas. The forum will commence at 5pm, with each candidate receiving 40 minutes to answer questions from the moderator, including user submitted questions.
The fair will open at noon, with participation from various candidates for the Florida House of Representatives, Miami-Dade County Commission, Miami-Dade School Board, State Attorney, and other local races. Confirmed participants include:
Franccesca Cesti-Browne, Candidate for State Representative, District 115
Javier Estevez, Candidate for State Representative, District 105
Dr. Nancy Lawther, Candidate for Miami-Dade County School Board, District 9
Maureen Porras, Candidate for State Representative, District 105
Danielle Cohen Higgins, Candidate for Miami-Dade County Commission, District 8
Luisa Santos, Candidate for Miami-Dade County School Board, District 9
Clint Barras, Candidate for State Representative, District 120
Melba Pearson, Candidate for Miami-Dade State Attorney
The location of the event is important to note, located less than 3 miles from Trump’s luxury golf resort where he suggested holding the next G7 summit. “Throughout 2020, the Miami-Dade Democratic Party intends to make a strong case for Democratic values and Democratic policies everywhere,” said Steve Simeonidis, chair of the Miami-Dade Democratic Party. “That includes the western part of the county, where many residents have family histories with autocratic regimes.”
