We delivered over 1,300 signatures to stop puppy mills

Dear Christopher,

You did it.

Thanks to you, we delivered a petition with over 1,300 signatures to Governor DeSantis asking him to veto SB 620, the Puppy Mill Law.

Other groups like the Humane Society have also been hard at work making phone calls and writing emails, asking the Governor to veto this bill.

We still don't know when he will make a decision about this, so let's keep up the pressure.

Spread the Word on Twitter

Today and tomorrow we are tweeting out quotes from the hundreds of comments people left on the petition and we are tagging each tweet with the hashtag #VETO620.

Check out our Twitter feed and retweet some of the tweets.

Call Gov. DeSantis to Veto SB 620

Governor DeSantis can veto new “puppy mill loophole” law

More than 20 Mayors Urge Governor to Veto 'Local Business Protection Act'

Via Florida Politics: Twenty-one Mayors from across Florida are making one last push to convince DeSantis to veto legislation they say will inhibit the ability of county and municipal governments to respond to public needs. The bill in question (SB 620), named the “Local Business Protection Act,” creates a cause of action for businesses to seek damages from local governments if they can prove a new ordinance caused a 15% income loss in one year. Eligible companies that have operated for at least three years in a jurisdiction would be able to recover expert-determined sums unless the municipality or county in question rescinds the ordinance. The Legislature passed the bill March 9. It awaits DeSantis’ signature. READ MORE:

The bill also would deter local governments from passing any regulation that might cost businesses money, she said, including light-pollution ordinances aimed at protecting sea turtles, prevailing wage laws, limits on hydraulic fracturing by oil and gas companies, and bans on “puppy mills"—operations that breed dogs to sell and have a reputation for sometimes inhumane conditions.
