BREAKING: Florida Senate Passes Anti-Solar Freedom Bill

This morning, in a 24-15 vote, the Florida Senate passed HB 741, the highly controversial and widely criticized legislation aiming to gut rooftop solar net metering in Florida. The Florida House also passed this bill last week; now the legislation will head to Governor Ron DeSantis for signature or veto.
The legislation changes "net metering" rules, which allow customers with rooftop solar panels to send excess electricity back to the grid in exchange for a credit on their electric bill. The legislation lowers the amount of credit solar customers receive and hits them with additional fees. On top of that, it imposes new minimum fees on all customers, hurting low-income customers the most. READ MORE:

Florida Politics: Lawmakers approve path to end net metering for solar energy
A recent study from advocacy group Conservatives for Clean Energy shows the solar industry adds 40,000 jobs, $18.3 billion in economic impact and $3.2 billion in household income for its workforce. That study also showed solar adds $10.6 billion to the state’s gross domestic product.
