July 9 Newsletter: Our endorsements for August

On Tuesday, we held a special Democratic Executive Committee meeting to make endorsements in key races being held this August 18. We’re now just days away from ballots being mailed for the August election, and weeks away from the start of early voting. Read on to see our endorsements.

Make sure you’re signed up for Vote-By-Mail. Florida is becoming an epicenter for COVID infections due to the botched response and poor planning of our governor, Ron DeSantis and our County Mayor, Carlos Gimenez. Democracy doesn’t stop during a pandemic, and the safest way to protect your health and your right to vote is to sign up to vote from home. Click here to check that you’re signed up: www.checkmyballot.miami. If you need to sign up, you can sign up here: www.votefromhome.miami. And if you need to register to vote, or update your address, click here: www.registertovote.miami

Sign up for the Voter Protection Team

One of the missions that we have in the Miami-Dade Democratic Party is to protect the right of our citizens to vote. The Miami-Dade Democratic Party’s Voter Protection Committee, chaired by Wayne Brody is looking for volunteers to help with this mission.

We don’t know what in-person voting will look like in August or November, but we do know that we need lawyers, activists, and problem solvers to help recruit, work the polls, and troubleshoot remotely. If you are up to joining the fight to save the vote, click here to sign up

In The News:

Our Statement Condemning the Hateful Remarks of the Trump Campaign Toward Cuban Americans:

In response to the hateful remarks of Giancarlo Sopo, Trump’s Rapid Response Director, who remarked that “Old Cubans should be prohibited from having political opinions,” and the quotation from Katie Miller who denigrated Little Havana, our Chair Steve Simeonidis said, “We are a nation of immigrants and Cuban Americans are an important part of our political discourse…. We reject those comments, just as we will reject Trump in November.” Read the full statement here.

Become a Sustaining Donor

I can’t thank all of our sustaining donors enough for stepping up and pitching in a small amount each month. These sustaining donations allow us to plan the programs that will drive up voter turnout across our county. We couldn’t run our field program or our digital program without your support.

Can you become a sustaining donor of $7$10, or $20.20 today?

We know this is a tough time for many of us right now, so please know we appreciate you staying involved in any way that you can. Thank you for all you do.

Onward,

Christopher Richmond
