Opportunities for increased involvement in March

I wrote this newsletter on February 25, before we had to shut down most of our in-person activities due to the Coronavirus outbreak. This newsletter advertised an event we were sponsoring called the “Blue Forum & Fair” which was meant to bring Miami-Dade Democrats together to meet with candidates and watch a forum of major candidates for Miami-Dade County Mayor.

Dear ,

Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada have all cast their ballots. South Carolina will vote this Saturday. And next week on March 3, fourteen more states will vote in "Super Tuesday." And yes, early voting for Florida's own presidential preference primary starts next week on March 2. Here are the dates and times:

  • Monday, March 2 - Friday, March 6 (7 am to 3 pm)
  • Saturday, March 7 - Sunday, March 8 (8 pm to 4 pm)
  • Monday, March 9 - Friday, March 13 (11 am to 7 pm)
  • Saturday, March 14 - Sunday, March 15 (8 am to 4 pm)

You can vote early at any early voting location in Miami-Dade County. You can see a full list of early voting sites here. And you can vote at your regular polling location on Tuesday, March 17.

Of course, voting isn't the only way to be involved in March. There are lots of ways to get involved this month, some of which are listed here.

March 15: The Blue Forum & Fair

We are excited to host a March convention this year, which we hope will take off and become an annual activity. This year, we will be hosting a two-part event on Sunday March 15.

From 12pm to 4pm, we will be holding a Fair for candidates, organizations, clubs & caucuses as well as campaign vendors who provide services for campaigns. There will also be a program of speakers during the afternoon covering important trainings, legislative updates and more. Stay tuned for announcements about a keynote speaker. Want to book a table for yourself or your organization? Follow this ticket link to purchase tickets ($40) and you'll be directed to a questionnaire to reserve a table at no additional charge. The tickets include a light meal, and the first 100 ticket holder will receive a free Miami-Dade Dems T-Shirt.

At 5pm, we will be hosting a Mayoral Forum, where we hear from three Democrats running for County Mayor. We are thrilled that Commissioner Daniella Levine Cava, Commissioner Jean Monestime, and Former Mayor Alex Penelas have all agreed to participate in the forum. You won't want to miss it.

Tickets to the mayoral forum (starting at 5pm) are free, and we encourage you to RSVP here.

Canvassing Opportunities this Weekend

We are always updating the events page on our website and we encourage you to check it frequently. There are several great opportunities for getting involved this weekend, including a canvass to help Democrats vote by mail in Coral Gables, a canvass party with the Dedicated Dems in Naranja—both on Sunday, March 1.

We're Hiring Field Organizers

The Miami-Dade Democratic Executive Committee (DEC) is hiring multiple Field Organizers for an unprecedented voter outreach effort for 2020. We are seeking Field Organizers who are ready to pull up their sleeves and help us flip Florida blue, and gain valuable campaign experience in the largest county in the most important swing state in the country.

You will get paid to help defeat Trump in 2020, period.

While doing that, you will also help build up grassroots power, register new voters, and support our down-ballot state, county, and local Democratic candidates whose campaigns are just as important to our community's needs as the top of the ticket.

If you are excited to conduct voter outreach, engagement, voter registration, and vote-by-mail signups, if you want to build and manage volunteer events such as phone banks and voter registration drives, if you you can recruit, train, and manage volunteers with the aim of building teams capable of operating independently, you should apply.

Organizing Corps:

Do you know any college students who would be interested in taking part in Organizing Corps 2020? If you know of good candidates in college, have them apply at organizingcorps2020.com. You can also find applications at @orgcorps2020 on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. The deadline to apply for the 5-week Immersion Training is March 4.

Democratic National Convention Delegate Filing Deadline

National Convention Delegate filing forms are available on the Florida Democratic Party website. The application deadline for district-level delegates is noon EST on Saturday, March 7.

Congressional District (CD) Caucuses will be Saturday, April 4, with some Early Voting locations on Thursday, April 2. The list of caucus locations will be added to the website Monday. Visit floridadems.org/convention for more details.

Are you a sustaining donor? Even $5 a month makes a big difference.

The local Miami-Dade Democratic Party is a self-funded, membership-driven organization of dedicated volunteers.

We are the largest Democratic county (600K registered Democrats) in the biggest swing state.
